Before you call
It helps to have:
- Your address, so the request reaches a company that works in your town
- Where the water shows up: floor edge, a crack, a window well, or just dampness
- When it happens: spring thaw, every hard rain, or all year
- Your foundation type if you know it: poured, block, brick or fieldstone
- Whether the basement is finished or you plan to finish it
Water near outlets, the furnace or the water heater? Stay out of standing water if anything electrical could be wet. Shut off power to the basement at the panel only if you can reach it from a dry spot.
